I did not make it to Deadwood. When I was with Siemens, one of my associates grew up in Deadwood.
Our original vacation we planned was in Vail only but decided it was worth spending 2 days in SD (Mount Rushmore & other monuments) It was about a 7 hour drive but absolutely worth it. My kids enjoyed the scenery during the ride as well.
We wanted to go to Devil's Tower in Wyoming as well but chose to pass in order to honor the Indian tribes tradition of conducting ceremonies and their request of a voluntary climbing ban in the month of June.
