The day I took the rabbits to the pet store :-(
What a statement. I'm soooo glad I live at the top of the Mississippi.
Please do Something
her lesson was learned so there won't be another picture like this. Even though this one is precious.
that you used the taped mouth icon.
The only incident is that Victoria got another rabbit from Roots (Rutz) Market. This one is a miniature loppy and all Mrs. Murphy's doing.
Not another Murphy Pet Incident?
What's the "other incident"?
Just wanted to bring this backup to the top since there was another incident.
OK I know it had to be done but I don't know how you did it. I guess I'm a big softy but I don't think I could have done it after looking at this picture.

the ENTIRE 40 minute ride to the pet store!!! I felt like scum, but it had to be done, we were not taking the best care of it, and I was tired of trying. This picture would win an award for most heartbreaking for sure!! My heart still melts when i look at it...but then I start laughing.
I know I am evil.
Can't believe you gave away a perfectly good rabbit. He would have made a nice stew.
Mmmm.
I saw your explination I see your point, you've discussed it, but Oh my God, that picture is heartbreaking! I still can't you were able to go through with it!
Thank God, I have some time before I go through that.
In our household, it's fairly easy for my husband and I not to get suckered in, because Joshua my oldest son is allergic to EVERYTHING, but cats. We had him allergy tested. I'm also allergic to most animals. So, anytime one of the kids asks us for a pet, we just tell them they are allergic to it, and unless they want to end up going to the hospital for getting sick, and have to get a shots, then we can't have pets. Joshua asked me to get a turtle one day, he said it doesn't have fur or hair or anything so it can't make him sick, and a hairless cat.
She looks soooo sad. You are mean Linda!!!!! J/K I know how kids lose interest quickly. Pets are a lot of work.
unc
cuz since this photo, we have had two hamsters, two pet Rats, goldfish, and a beta, of all those we only have Rats that survived and we still have our beloved dog Kia. The pet rats are so fun, I love them they have little personalities and like to be handled. Murf still hasn't gotten attached to them yet, so I have had to hold off buying two beautiful tan female baby rats that were at the local pet store.

We have always pronounced Roots Market as Rutz Market. www.rootsmarket.com
you guys are suckers for outdoor creatures of any shape or size.
(Note to self: Never ever let the Murphys Pet Sit).
How do you and your wife pronounce it? It is a long standing debate here at the Murphy household. Thanks for the compliments on our kids, I too was a sucker for many many years...lets see we kept every thing the kids ever found on a hike including a few box turtles...all named Bobby by Isaiah, a few ring neck and gartner snakes, which we accidentally killed by not really knowing how to care for them...tadpoles, oh they died too eventually, a bird, lots of cats, fish, hermit crabs...which all got left out of the cage and then probably died, a guinea pig, which bit everyone so we were afraid to hold it, Murph did I miss anything? I just started to notice a pattern...they almost all died in our kids care.
That sure would be a good poster for a Shelter for abused animals. Kinda like a Sally Struthers campaign. You guys have the cutest children who always have a smile on there face (even when they cry).
Linda, you went above and beyond your duty and took care of the rabbits for them the way it sounds. You did the right thing and put them in a place where they could be cared for. Since our children no longer live at home, we some how acquired all of the daughters pets. A dog, a bird, fish... And everytime one of them does something bad, its all my fault. It cost me 65 dollars yesterday for that dang dog to go to the beauty shop yesterday, with the Shampoo and creme rinse and Hair cut and nails done... gimme a break. But she looks so cute, what are you gonna do. I like Markus, am a big sucker as well.
PS: My wife and I love to go to Roots Market.
I forgot to tell you how we came upon the rabbits...My husband likes to take the kids to a farmers market called Roots..Rutz Market, at the market they have a pet auction, where we sometimes just WATCH, well in my absence, our little angel begged him to go "watch" the auction, from there she begged him to bid on a crate of bunnies...they were only five bucks he said. But then the cage 90, food etc you know the rest. He is a sucker
Doug you are welcome, we are glad you were able to use them and have a great time.
I,am so sorry. I think I bought that RABBIT an ate it for dinner. SORRY Linda but thanks.
.. I KNOW BAD JOKE. .......P.S thank u from ALL of us for last Sunday.
Now that I've heard 'the rest of the story', I conclude that you did the right thing! If the children had kept up the responsibility of caring for the rabbits, it might have been different. You're back in good standing again!
Thanks for sticking up for me, however I don't think she is smiling at all, she was a mess. For about six months after I took the bunnies away, every night at bedtime she got sad, and not because she missed these ones but she remembers the one bunny we had two years ago that died. I think kids have an automatic stall mechanism in their mind, hers says "if I cry and be sad about something, my mom will let me stay up a little longer"
don't go ganging up on me...there was actually three rabbits, that I never agreed to getting. Yet one day when I took my oldest to NYC for her birthday, the other kids told me they had a surprise for "ME"
when I got home, there were three little bunnies at our house! So I stepped up to the plate, had a cage made for them...went way out of my way to pick up the cage, the food, the water bottle etc. and for a good year, I was the only one basically taking care of them. In fact after the novelty wore off, most of the kids stopped playing with them at all...the cage warped and so I could no longer get the back latch off to clean it...It was gross, and I thought the rabbits would be happier at a warm pet store with constant care and attention. I have to say the entire ride to the store, I had this picture of Victoria etched in my brain, and I felt terrible.
Even though she is crying and heartbroken, She still looks to be smiling.
Why did the rabbits have to go to the pet store? What a mean mommy!
That's one sad picture.

Chris,
I wasn't really trying to make a statement, and probably should not make light of the horrible situation going on down there. But the face fits the situation. I really hope they do get that mess cleaned up soon, and better yet, come up with a better system in the future. Can you imagine if we had offshore drilling here on the east coast, and something like that happened?
I should not be making light of this issue, I am going to share this link to a You Tube Video called BP Coffee Spill. Everyone else seems to be enjoying them selves over this mess. LINK
