Army,

Schofield Garrison, HI
before that Morgantown, WV.
E-4, 74D Chemical Operations Specialist

Walked into the recruiter station and got a 99th precentile on my ASVAB, 143 GT score (it maxes at 150). Too smart to send into combat, not dumb enough to be a sergent, and really really wishing it was more like the Milt. At least back then I worked for a living.

slight correction

Actually, I can't say I won't have any reason to go to PA. Sorry if I offended anybody in my Milt family with that comment. Just not thinking clearly tonight.

Think I will re-up

After the last weekend at home, I think I will be going for 20 years after all. Not like I'm going to have a reason to be in PA anymore. Sometimes I forget how much easier the single life was.

Although, I still wonder how much I can trust the government to keep their word about retirement...you've seen how veterans of our prior wars have been treated.

Maybe I'll just try to hit the lottery instead.

Java, re-up for the 54

You may not be happy about it now, but you sure will be when those checks start coming in. Plan today for your retirement tomorrow.

Guess it's my turn to tell

Enlisted in Navy in April '94 after going absolutely nowhere in DE.
Graduated boot camp and apprentice training in July 94 as E-3.

Aug 94-Aug 98 USS Seattle (AOE-3) in Earle, NJ
Made 2 deployments to Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf

Sep 98-Sep 2000 Naval Station Annapolis, MD
Worked on sailboats and motorboats for midshipmen training

Oct 2000-Dec 2005 USS Gunston Hall (LSD-44) in Little Creek, VA
Made 3 deployments: 2001 UNITAS deployment to South America and West Africa (inport Peru on 9/11), 2003 Operation Iraqi Freedom, and 2005 GWOT Surge deployment to Persian Gulf and West Africa (worst deployment ever, only decent port visit was Rhodes, Greece)

Jan 2006-present US Naval Academy Annapolis, MD
Small boat engineer and Yard Patrol Craft chief engineer, due to transfer back to sea in Jan 2009 (for 8 months if I don't re-enlist, 54 months if I do.)

Presently E-6 Engineman, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist

There's a lot more detail involved between the lines, places I've visited and things I've accomplished... but I'm too lazy to put them all in here LOL I'll just say that I've been to 5 out of the 7 continents

I have much respect for my fellow Soldiers, but I have the utmost respect for you Chuck and all the others in your era that were drafted to the military. The Vietnam Era was a tough time and for anyone to come out alive and intact, it says alot about your character.

Thank you all so much

for protecting our country. I know the Gods walk with you all.

I especially like Eric's and Dave's signatures at the bottom of their posts. They are both so very true.

Thanks again,

Crossed many paths

I did the Lackland part for basic, then San Antonio for OTS, Montgomery for SOS, and Wright Patt for a long time.

Yes, wives count, they are critical.

Does being married to a military man count for anything?

Hmm, where to start?

Well, he went to basic at Lackland, AFB in January of 1988.
That's where he asked me to marry him, on the phone, funny story for another time to be sure.
Then...
Keesler AFB, MS March 1988
Myrtle Beach AFB, SC March 1988-Nov. 1991
Portsmouth Recruitment Center, NH Nov 1991-March 1995
Maxwell AFB, for OTS March 1995-June 1995
McGuire AFB, NJ July 1995-June 1998
Wright-Patterson AFB, OH June 1998-June 2001
Pentagon June 2001-July 2005
Eglin AFB, FL July 2005-August 2007
Here's the thing. The kids and I are still here at Eglin, while Chuck is away to
Maxwell AFB, AL again for 1 year of schooling with the Air Force. Since our kids are in high school, we decided not to move them for one year of high school, knowing that we'll be moving again in summer of 2008.
I love my military man, even if I have to follow him to the ends of the earth!

I was schedule to the go into The Airforce December 1992.

I broke my leg in August 1992.

I had a metal rod put in my leg in lieu of a cast. The Airforce told me that they wouldn't take me as a result.
