Who was the first Black MHS AOTY?
Does anyone know the answer to this question?
your first answer was correct. The C/O 1970 was the last MHS all-white, all-male class. There have been black MHS alumni since 1971, yet to my knowledge none have been bestowed with the award of AOTY. I'll wait to be corrected if I'm wrong! MHS integrated racially back in the 1960's. Sherman Vickers, Carl Wilson, Rick Davis and Marshall Nixon were some of the first Homeboys I remember, who happened to be black.
The current composition of key MHS administrators doesn't reflect 40+ years of racial integration, nor does the MHS BOM make-up. I'm not sure that the current MHSAA BOD [nor its officers] provides any better reflection. Jerry Waters was the first black MHSAA President, [coincidentally around the second day on the job a lawsuit was filed against him]. I'm not suggesting anything by these statements, only providing the information.
Sincerely,
Don
But then I thought maybe the first one was from your class Don so I think it is Richard C. Zilmer.
Alumnus of the year

I remember seeing a group photo of the first black class ( I think it was just 3 seniors then) hanging at Founders Hall
