Unbelievable cover up that went on for 20 years - then the payoff!
Just Terrible, I was at the school during this time and was in the same grades as some of the kids who were affected. I know who BT & MT from the Dallas area are, with MT being probably my best friend at the school. I completely understand him never mentioning anything to me about this. I hope any settlement he received, helps some. This was at a time when the old guard was giving way to the new guard. A lot of abuse was happening during these times. I pretty much feel that during this time, a lot of us still suffered from the old guard of keeping these things silent & covered up. I was never sexually abused by adults while at the milt, but I sure was physiologically & physically abused by house parents in the late 80's. I'm naming names to, Clyde Stough who was the housefather at Boone for 18 years & retired in summer of 1986. I've always hoped that man died a miserable death, which in my early time after leaving the school was a very tragic hate to harbor and proliferate. I just hope my friend can find some peace with what happened. Though I know he'll never fully be able to leave it behind, I truly hope the pain this caused him, grows less & less over the years. The late 80's were a terrible time & place to be a part of MHS for a good number of kids. I've been able to find peace with what happened, I can only hope any of my other fellow milts who were abused during this time, can find theirs.
And to think, i actually knew this "guy" as I will call him for now. It is disappointing that no action was taken for a very long time, and I only hope it never happens ever again. I remember hearing about the story during a brief visit to Hershey while on leave from base, and never heard anymore about it. And what I feel sorry for most of all, are the students that had to go through this kind of treatment when they thought they were protected. I wish those responsible for the cover up were made to answer for their actions, the least they could do for the students and the families affected by this horrific action. That is all I can say on this subject
I read the newspaper articles and I don't remember this relief or her son. From what I understand I was in senior division by the time they came along. I can't believe he got away with it for sooooo long! And why didn't the cops do anything? I just don't get it. I'm highly disappointed in the big cover up and a week after the first newspaper article received a lame apology letter from the school about the situation.
Don: Thank you for posting and sharing that story on here. It explains alot, more than you realize.

I've ever read. Maybe the Rothermel's weren't so bad after all.
