Old Senior Hall
Opinions on the new building anyone
When I arrived in Hershey at about 4pm. I parked at the bottom of Pat's Hill and made my girlfriend walk up the hill with me!
.. I told her I walked this hill many times and it wasn't that bad. I was so excited to get in there and tour the school. At first I was the youngest one around and I really wondered whether I would see anyone I knew. The gym looks the same, but so much brighter and newer than we had it in the 80's. The auditorium was like I remembered... the foyer in the front of the school as well. I didn't tour upstairs. Once I got to the cafeteria it was all about getting some good food to eat. Just I like I remember back in the day!
..
I hope to get back again next year and tour the school again. This time taking more pics of the interior of the school. I think MHS did an awesome job revitalizing that old bldg. I still wonder if the pool under the boys locker room is still there or did they fill that in? Anyone???
I was hesitant on going to the building and see what they did. I brought alot of the animosity of them gutting the building and what not and taking away alot of the memories I have of that wonderful building.
I've gotta say I was impressed!
Entering from the Lobby I was very happy that they actually kept the Art Deco lobby. The marble was actually polished and it brightened the space.
The front facade and into the English/Science wings for the most part is still the same. Up until the bathrooms everything looked the same including the interior brick.
Next stop the auditorium again looks amazing cleaned up. Other than recovering the seats it looks the same. Only big difference is where they hung the portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Hershey. Instead of the sides they are illuminated up front.
That's when the rest of the building gets dicey. The halls beside the auditorium have been GREATLY expanded and you'd lose yourself.
The gym is still intact minus the doors to the Wrestling Room and the new paint scheme is a Godsend the place isn't dark anymore.
The old shop wing is now classrooms, the new library, cafeteria and you should see the 8 Lane Pool
.
Went the other direction towards the East Parking Lot and talk about a LONGGGGG hallway. Toured the second floor as well and it's what most of us would remember.
I can't believe they have their own powerplant to supply power to the building.
Only complaint...whats w/ the parking garage out the back door?

The thing though that would have really made it would be for the statue to be put back in the lobby. If not the original stature maybe a female version of the one that was there?
