Bad Rap for the school

Dave,

I did happen to be flipping through the gazillion channels we have (because there is never nothing on), and when I got to CNN sure enough, there was the overhead picture of the old high school on the hill. It sure got my attention. And that is what CNN wants, your attention.

First of all since you graduated in 1990, Unless you knew him on a personal basis, I think it is safe to say, you never met or knew Andrew Joseph Stack. I did meet him one time as I was friends of his brothers Harry (77) and Tom (79). I just find it to be very disgusting that the news media can use whatever pictures and information it wants to present a story. Regardless if it pertains to the situation that happened or not. Andy Stack attending Milton Hershey School, in my opinion had nothing to do with his beef with the IRS. Yet they continually start the story out about his childhood at Milton Hershey School. I don't believe Andy had any dealings with the IRS during his time at the milt. The story should be all about the next 36 years of his life. It is my opinion that CNN and all other media outlets have been using Milton Hershey's name to grab attention to sell rags and get ratings. The media controls the world, and its sad. Even the local news channels thrive on death and peoples sorrows. And never to they talk about the good things that are going on in the community. The news is so depressing to watch for me anymore. I usually watch it so I can catch the weather the 8 times they do it in a half hour, and its always different.

In response to your question: I think your response to others is simply that, you did not know the man. He did attend the same school as you did, and its very sad for the family he left behind, and the people he hurt and killed in the building. There is no humor to be found in the story.

I'm glad you posted this information. I was wondering if anyone else seen this on CNN.

Death and Taxes

Shortly after April 15, a new special has been airing repeatedly on CNN called "Death and Taxes" which is all about Joe Stack and the IRS. It's very sad and painful to see them repeatedly bringing up Milton Hershey School with an aerial view of the hill during this broadcast.

My coworkers know I attended the Milt, just as some of you probably have also shared. And of course they watch TV. I mean, I do live near Atlanta where CNN is headquartered, so what channel do you think is going to have some followers?

So...what are we supposed to say when they ask us about this? I mean, really? This seems to me to be too serious to deflect with humor. I'd like to hear some of your thoughts.

I saw the commercial

Was a little shocked to see it during the awards show. My first thought was, it was an attempt to clean up the image of the school, due to recent unwanted attention it has been getting.

Ad at Penn Cinema

Vic Fisella (spelling?) was in an Ad for a dentist office that ran before the movies started for the longest time.

And most recently....tragically but news worthy Andrew Joseph Stacks class of 74... has been the headliner for flying his plane into the IRS building in Texas.

Milts on TV

While not exactly "national" scope, I was in a news segment about a technology company I was working for back in 1999. It aired on the local Fox affiliate in Pittsburgh, WPGH-53.
