I never use it until after I retired from the Police force. Due to an injury I received while in the Army. The V.A. hospital had me on oxycodone and so many pain killers that I was starting to lose days. So I got a medical card and it's been much better. I love living in OREGON...

California, Schwarzenegger in particular wants to tax medical marijuana right now at $50 an ounce. My mother died from cervical cancer in 1979 and we, me and my two sisters, would buy it and give it to my mom to alleviate the sickness from chemo. It worked great and she suffered much less b/c of it.
I am on your side in this battle for medical purposes. THC pills are available now and they work great too.
So sorry for your illness. You have a great attitude and in the not too distant future they may have a cure or at least much better meds to deal with this terrible disease. My thoughts are with you.

You can't get addicted to Marijuana...and that is a fact. all of the drugs that you list are manufactured and many, legal and in use today by the pharmaceutical companies who WANT you to get hooked on this stuff. On the flip side, pot, isn't like that at all.
Plants are a wonder thing....turning them into drugs, isn't. growing something in your home, then deciding to smoke it, causes WHAT harm again? NONE. Taking a poppy plant and brewing tea is actually holistic.....turning it into heroin and Oxy, which the government already does, is the problem.

I would have to disagree. The opium plant and flower in general should be controlled. As so with Marijuana. Heroin is just a semi synthetic drug. The crystals of the opium plant when dried can be used as a drug. Also use of opium derived drugs for a week will cause dependancy and withdrawals. Think of the PEYOTE cactus plant. From your comment, above, you feel that it should just be ok for us to use. Medically yes, but everyone to just have access to it would make us a society of drug addicts.
The bottom line is that drugs are great when used they way the should be used. This world is full of people who can't deal with the freedom of just having addicting drugs available for all to use with no rules. Drugs are legal. You just have to have them given to you by a doctor. That is the only way to keep it out of kids hands and make it harder for people to just get them.
Also don't think for a minute that if they do just legalize all drugs to just be sold in stores that there won't still be a black market where you would still be able to get the drug cheeper and not pay taxes on it. And if I am making $400,000 dollars in my area and you move in to open up another little black market shop. Don't think that they won't shoot each other. Or shoot a cop who is attempting to enforce the law. If weed would have been legal then they would have been selling something else and he would have still died.
Drugs need to be controlled.
One last thing. Here in NY marijuana charges are misdemeanors. If the government of NY decides to legalize it, it would be considered a controlled substance. Now Crim. possession of a controlled substance in the state of New York is a Felony. So it would make no scene to do that. I would make a lot more money. Just leave well enough alone. Control it and give it to who need it. The sick and dying. They NEED it.

I totally respect you as a friend and I respect you opinions, of course.
Maybe I should have mentioned that I spend a great deal of time in Africa and I have a different perspective on plants in general. I am a botanist and I really don't believe in prescription drugs.....if it comes from the Earth, then it is for our use. For us to tend.
My thing is that the deaths that you see from people that kill each other over pot could be avoided if it was made legal.
As for opium....again, it is a plant. I do not support the use of heroin, as that is a synthetic drug...but poppies, and natural plants of any kind..are her for us to use.

In real life it is bad. It is a cause of death by the dealers killing each other on the corners. I've seen it kill undercover police officers. One that sticks in my mind is in 1992 or 1993 when an undercover went into a smoke shop to buy weed. He did so and when the field team entered the dealers shot and killed the undercover. I had a friend in Narco who use to like to walk around like a gay guy and buy X and weed. When he walked up to the dealer for the weed. They gave him a $20 bag and when he turned they shot him. His partner returned fire and shot the perp in the head.
The point is that Marijuana is bad and I am not saying that it had no play in our country. Medically in might be the shizzy but as far as a rec. drug it is not. Kids get their hands on it now, what do you think if we made it main stream and put it legally in smoke shops. Just look at alcohol an cigarettes. No matter what the rules are kids get them. Weed IS harder to get. We have stings and in a day we must lock up hundreds of people selling or buying it in NY.
As far as GOD goes. No matter what you believe. Anyone who thinks that a Supreme being, AKA God, thinks that drugs are good, really needs to look at their faith. Just because we have learned to use the earth for our benefit doesn't make it OK in Gods eyes. If that where true then we would have to say the same for opium drugs. Drugs are helpful but they can't be just out there for everyone.

I was fully aware that by posting this, I would no doubt, bring up some very good opinions...and all of the responses have been good.
This is, my original post was just asking a question. It wasn't meant for feelings to get hurt or to rattle any chains, well, maybe the chains part. Point is, this debate has been going on for quite sometime.
Cannabis, as a whole, would serve this world in many good ways. Food, fiber fuel, just to name a few.
As far as the pot smoking goes. People tend to go way too far with a lot of stuff. "Abuse " is a very thrown around term. It should, in my opinion be legal to help aid cancer patients eat, instead of using synthetic materials. It should be legal to stop crime. I don't think pot is a gateway drug.
Anyway..I could go on....and I am sure I will have to answer for these things that I have said.
I never meant to hurt anyone. I get very harsh at times because, again, I have fought my way through this world, as an orphan, as a woman and as one very misunderstood individual.
Once again I am sorry and I will think a little more before I post such a touchy subject.
