Go Flyers!
Flyers just won the first round. Keep it going boys!
I was soooo hopeful this year. But knew it came to an end when I checked the score in the 2nd period and it was 4 to zip. Welp, hopefully they can charge themselves up and bring it home next year.
Prior to yesterday's game, I thought the Flyers had, all things considered, played a good series. They just didn't get that one break and/or easy goal that they needed to swing the momentum.
Yesterday was a different story. You could see that, Timmonen or not, the club was spent.
Still, I was impressed with the class the Flyers showed. I fully expected them to spend the 3rd period gooning it up, trying to take out Pens players or incite riots. Kudos to them for simply skating it out.
I've got the Pens in 6 if the Stars somehow win out, Wings in 7 if they manage to wrap the series. Should be entertaining one way or the other.
How about my frigging cable company doesn't carry Vs.? Every time the game's on Vs., I have to find somewhere else to watch.
Moe wanted to send congrats to you and your Penguins for a good series, unfortunately the Flyers lost and we will look to meeting you in next years playoffs. Good luck and hopefully you play Dallas I think it will be an easier match up instead of Detriot.
To the other Flyer fans on here we can only look to get better and hope next year will be even better than this season.
watching the Flyers game tonight and that commercial came on and I immediately thought of Clay...
that right there was funny
when your children were born....
3-0 Flyers....Unfortunately I'm boarding a plane home & will miss the rest of the game.
No matter what the actual record was it will always be 4-4-4 or fo-fo-fo to me....That was a magical time.
In the '83 run the Sixers actually had went 4-5-4.............despite Moses's predicition of 4-4-4
First round bye
Swept the Knicks in second round
Bucks ended up winning 1 in Conference Finals
Swept the Lakers (How sweet it was?)
I lived in LA for six years (1990-1996) and never got over my dislike for the Laker franchise.
They'll burn the city down next time there is a championship in the city. It'll be a zoo. I still remember the police dogs and cops on horseback at the end of Game 6 in '80 World Series. They feared the fans would riot and destroy the Vet if the Phils won (which they did)
Unless a miracle happens, the Flyers are done; another season is done and the city's hope once again will rest on the Phillies shoulders. I really feel for the fans who have yet to witness one. On WIP, Anthony Gargano called one of the callers who fits the profile part of the "Lost Boys".
My father passed away on July 2nd 1984. The last great father/son memory I have is of us watching the 4-4-4 run together. I was 11 at the time and I didn't watch the Phils in '80, so that was the first and last championship I experienced as a true fan. I was a fan of the Phils (The Wheez Kids) by then too and they went to the series that fall, but my dad had been diagnosed with Leukemia in September so a lot of the fun was taken out of that run.
I literally live and die with these teams. I guess that's a badge of honor around here and it may seem nuts to others, but it is the way that it is. I really need for this streak to end. Can you imagine what Broad St. will be like when we do get one?
I'm still wishing for a small miracle
Let's go Fly Boys! Get your asses in gear!
We're so overdue...................Growing up in Philly area, all of the teams pretty much sucked. Based on what I remember, we're looking at starting point in the late 60's (i.e. 1968). The Flyers were an expansion team and were the only decent team around. The Eagles were brutal and I remember when they finished 3rd in the division with a 6-7-1 record in the '71 season, people were generally excited. ( I still remmeber a headline in either the Bulletin or Inquirer stating "We're Number 3" (i.e. third in the NFC East behind Dallas & Washington).
I can't complain because I was old enough to witness the last four championships................. Flyers in '74 & '75 (I came to MHS to see the second; skipped school and went to the parade for the 1st as an 8th grader). My college days '78 to '83 were like Philly sports Camelot era. Phillies finally get respectable in the mid '70s and make the playoffs in '76, '77, '78, '80, '81, & '83 & winning it all in '80. The Sixers make the NBA championship three times and finally winning it in '83. (I graduated from Drexel less than a week later). Eagles finally made the playoffs after a long spell in '78 and again in '79, '80 & '81 with the ultimate in beating Dallas in the NFC Championship game in Jan '81 & then to lose to the underdog Raiders in the SB XV in New Orleans. The Raiders are the answer to a trvia question of "Who was the first wild card team to win the SB?". Out of all of them I would trade them all back to see the Eagles raise the Lombardi. They had the chance but Andy Reid's stubborn ways probably cost the Birds the chance. (I can still hear the silence of the Vet with the exception of the TB bench when Ronde picked off Donovan to end it in Jan'03)
I just went back to Drexel last weekend for a pseudo-Homecoming (Blue & Gold Days) since it was my 25th. I cabn't believe I've been out of college & haven't seen a parade since.

looking at 99 straight "seasons" without a major sport championship in Philly. If the Phillies don't pull it off they will make 100, or it could be the Eagles if you don't count the year without a World Series. The Phils wouldn't have won it anyway, so you might as well count it.
An overall weak effort in Game 3............................I felt like I was watching the New Jersey Devils of the past in Pens uniforms.
Can you say "Neutral Zone Trap"?
While I don't disagree with you across the board, I agree with Bob. I think, even if they win the next two, the Flyers are about out of gas.
And I hate to beat a dead horse, but the Pens aren't the Caps or Montreal (with their "deer in the headlights" rookie goalie).
I'm a huge Flyers fan but think they've run out of gas............................
Here's hoping I'm wrong.....................
You're a Flyers fan?
Ryan Parent is going to get on his horse and stop the Pen's O. He's going to be that guy....at least I hope he is.
this is a 7 game series and even though the Pens won the first 2 games I am not giving up, you just don't know. I think the Flyers can get the next 2 wins at home we have ourselves a series. Go Flyers!
The reality of it all is the Flyers at this point of the season have been playing with house money. The Pens are the better team & should win the series. I thought the Flyers had to split in Pitt to have a shot. I am hoping they make it a series but think it's over.
I looked Friday, didn't see him. Sunday night, same thing. Where is Daniel Briere?
Then, this morning, after pouring a bowl of cereal, I finally found him. He's on the side of my carton of milk.
2-0, Pens.
....and Malone and Staal and Roberts and Gonchar and Sykora and Whitney and Ruutu. Man, I hope the Cryers have a lot of defensemen.
I guess I've missed the greatness emerging from the Flyers. They beat a one man team and they beat a Montreal team whose goalie started allowing goals from the blue line.
I don't think I'm predicting greatness for the Pens. In fact, they'll likely lose in the Cup finals to Detroit.
But the Flyers are playing w/ house money right now and I think their luck is about up.
Oh, by the way, 1-0 Pens.
Flyers win 5-2 tonight.
would be realizing that the Flyers are playing great team hockey right now and yes the loss of Timonen sucks, but it is anyones series. Especially if the Flyers can play solid D against Malkin, Crosby, Hossa etc.... They did it against Washington and Montreal, so don't be so quick to appoint the Pens as the greatest thing since sliced bread and them winning it in 5.
Ahh, I love objective fans. Your fascination with Crosby notwithstanding (it's bordering on creepy, btw), if Crosby gets hurt/suspended/whatever, that just means we'd have to fall back on former ROY and '08 Hart finalist Evgeni Malkin.
I'm not sure what Kool-Aid the mass media has served you, but it's been quite a while since I thought Crosby was the best Pens player.
Umberger or Limburger as you like to call him will have a great series and after Crosby gets suspended for diving, the Flyers will take the series.
Whatever chance the Flyers had died with the news of Timonen's injury. Now I say Pens in five.
Eh, giving credit to the Flyers would be like me giving props to the Red Sawx for winning a pair of World Series. I try to do it, but then I throw up in my mouth a little bit.
Realistically, though, they weren't THAT bad. Last year was more of an abberation than anything else. This is not some long suffering, cursed team we have here.
02/03: lost in 2nd rd
03/04: lost in Conference Finals
04/05: lockout
05/06: lost in first round
06/07: missed playoffs
07/08: in Conference Finals
So far they've beaten a one man team and followed it up by shell-shocking a rookie goaltender. The prelims are over now, so we'll see what both teams actually have.
Either way win lose they are having one of the best turn arounds in any sports franchise period. You have to give them credit where credit is due.
You are in fact correct about the RJ being the leading scorer for them right now and that just happened in the last 4 games so can you imagine him in the next round against the Pengiuns whom he terrorized this year.

Well, correct me if I am wrong (I'm not) but your leading lamp lighter in the playoffs has been Pittsburgh native RJ Umberger.
I should not have called him your best player. The Flyers best player is Bobby Clarke. What is he, like 60 now?
Never mattered to me who the #1 seed was. I, like most people, thought Montreal was a paper tiger. When you are counting on Alexi Kovalev in the playoffs, as they were, you're not going all that far.
And if, in fact, the Pens were trying to avoid the Flyers, well, that didn't work too well.
As an unbiased hockey fan, I know this series could go either way. Crosby and Malkin showed some bad warning signs when they let the Rangers knock them around a bit. Both spent entire periods taking runs at Jagr.
But as a Pens fan, I just can't believe that the fact that the three best players in every game will be wearing Pens jerseys won't make a difference.
And if it goes 7, game 7 is in PittsburgH.
Sorry I have to chime in here about this, funny how Moe you say RJ is our best player when in fact the Flyers had more players score in double digits this year than any team. I would think going from last place to that is an accomplishment in itself, and quite honestly if you are a Pittsburg fan wouldnt you have wanted your team to have been the #1 seed in the division I guess not since they were affraid their was a chance they were going to face the Flyers and knowing Ottawa was playing horrible they had a chance to advance.
And now look the horrible, worst team in the NHL last year made the playoffs and not only did they make it but got through the first round and beat the #1 seed in the second in 5 games which I am sure everyone thought they were going to get swept but that did not happen. So now they are playing the Penguins whom I do like but I dont think they will win yes it will be a very entertaining series but I think it will go 7 games with the flyers going to the cup.
I just noticed that in your profile picture, you look like Michael J. Fox. Either that, or Joyce is standing by one of those cardboard cutouts. I'm going with that.
First of all, in the words of Fredo Corleone, "you don't talk to a man like Moe Greene like THAT."
Secondly, Sid the Kid is NOT a diver. Nor is Malkin. Ruutu is a diver. Hossa is a diver on par with Greg Louganis. But Sid isn't. Nor is Jagr for that matter.
Be honest, you started watching hockey when Lindros was with the Flyers because you identified with all of the head injuries he'd suffered.
Did you actually watch the game he got that crap derriere call? He looked like Crosby's ballerina cousin. Just because you love Crosby doesn't mean he isn't a diver. You should get over the fact that he is a diver and toughen up when everyone else not in Pittsburgh sees it and calls him on it.

Get OVER it. I'm sorry that your best player is BJ Limburger. The Flyers are, in keeping with what they learned from their mamas', GOING DOWN to the Pens.
Pens in 6.
When was the last time the Flyers won a Cup? Were you even alive then?
it is getting rather frightening.
who is Moe Greene?
What do you do, go from site to site and accuse players of diving? I see you are over here accusing Ovechkin, I've seen you accuse Crosby of diving, etc.

It's sort of like watching a little boxing action on the ice too...like a bonus!
I love to watch hockey.
It has an ebb and flow to the game. It has no time clock to get in the way. It has stayed the same forever. Hockey, skate punch. skate bump, skate penalty. One on one.. Start a fight.

I used to love baseball when I was little, around the time the Phillies won the penant. I had Pete Rose everything! Now I look at baseball and it bores me. You know I actually get irratated at the background mumbling at the games, it drives me nuts!
Now hockey on the other hand is very physical and constant movement. Same with football. I know basketball has constant movement but I can't really get into it.
Go Fly Boys!
baseball fan. Have you attended a hockey game UNC? Do you watch baseball games? Hockey has constant action, whereas with baseball, some of the games you would be less bored watching paint dry.
games coming your way soon then will we?!?!?!?!?
hated soccer. Running all around to kick that dumb ball and if you are lucky there my actually be a goal. Boring.
Oh sorry, I thought this was about soccer. Hockey, soccer same thing. Booorrrrriiiinnnnng.

GO PENS!! GO PENS!! GO PENS!!
are in the Hburg (Lemoyne) area, you are more than welcome to come watch! Joyce is an Islanders fan though, so we will have to try and sooth her by feeding her some crab dip from Dukes on the West Shore.
I unfortunately do NOT have Comcast Sports Net and the game was blacked out on Direct TV....I was NOT happy! I had to watch the game on this little block space of tv, NOT fun! However, I was able to see the goal at 10:02pm ish and I believe everyone on my block (my husband and daughter tells me that everyone in my township) heard me scream when they scored that goal. That was so awesome! I could NOT believe they pulled it off. Holy crap! Hot damn!!!!!!! Fly Boys made my night!
Now, if they can just keep this winning going!
So, if the game is on Comcast tomorrow night, whos house can I crash to watch the game at?
glad they won. They should have swept the Caps, but at least they won. I think the Flyers need to learn how to do that wonderful diving act Ovechkin has been working on.
Yea!!! Flyers!!!! Hatcher had a great Game on defense!!!!
Go flyers!!!

Vikki - I know the feeling. My son had a soccer game on Sunday (pouring rain and all) and I checked and it was 2-0.
All in all, the Flyers had a Washington, DC of a run. I expect them to make some moves and be even better for 2008-09 season.
