Earthquake hits Chile
Apparently an earthquake of 8.4 on the rictor scale hit Chile this morning.....consequently it is sending a Tsunami towards Hawaii.....Lets all pray that it doesn't take place and ever reach our beautiful state of Hawaii. Our good buddy Keoni is there right now living a life long dream, so to him I want to say stay safe.
I probably should have givin a thanks for the update before I went to church, but was in a hurry. At least to let him know we care and that some are reading this.
Thanks for reporting your tsunami experience. It's good to hear that you are safe and sound.
was almost a non-event here in Hawai'i. Although the Marquesas Islands (about 1,000 miles northeast of Tahiti) saw waves of around 6 feet, by the time it reached us, the waves were only about 1-2 feet. There was some good draining and surging in Hilo on Hawai'i island but it wasn't very dramatic on O'ahu. The TV stations had video from Waikiki, and over the course of a few cycles of drain and surge, you could see some of the reef offshore exposed a bit. It was pretty much over by 2PM HST and the Tsunami warning was lifted at that time. They had closed a lot of stores along the south shore from Kalaeloa on southwest O'ahu to Makapu'u point on the east, including Ala Moana Mall near Waikiki and many stores downtown were closed. I had bought a printer from a downtown store and was supposed to pick it up today, but that store was closed too!
It was very strange this morning as an evacuation order was in force by the state for many coastal areas and bus service on the coasts was suspended until the all clear. Not much traffic on the roads - it was like an early Sunday morning until later in the afternoon.
So, I am safe, as I live about a mile from the harbor up a street ascending to the mountains.
This is your intrepid reporter, Keoni, bringing you the latest update from Honolulu!

They are thinking it will hit Hawaii at 11:10 their time, 4:30 ours. I really hope Keoni is safe and that his house is not damaged. they said Alaska and California could be affected but their waves should be minimal. so far 82 lives have been taken in Chile.
