90s Music - Did that era even have their own sound?
A little known 90s song...but as for 90s bands that I would know and most others would know this is the best I could do without playing Nirvana....gag...I can't stand that band.
In case you don't know...Sixpence sang the song Kiss Me.
!! That was such a long time ago.Meredith
Oh yeah, well...this one time, at band camp...
I got nothing!
Yeah, my 21st is the night they signed their Throwing Copper national contract. Was cool and we were packed to the rafters (pun intended). We used to get shit faced playing pool and cuttin up after the crowd left til the wee hours of the morning.
My other favorite (though not music) was in college the day my father died we had Jay Mohr come to do his comedy act to my college (Alvernia College ~ um WHY did I go there again?). I was like please don't hit me up to do scathing stuff with the audience (b/c I just wasn't in the mood) and we became friends. Drove my friend Jen and he back to her parents and he and I kept in touch til after his SNL days.
You talk about Live.
I was a bartender at the Silo in Reading. Got to know them as a cover band prior to their Atlantic contract for Throwing Copper. They pulled me off my bar and helped me do my 21 shots. Let's just say I couldn't drive the 8 miles home that night.
I have a better one than that---I actually went to school with them. Smith Middle School York, Pa. I danced woth Ed several times at out 8th grade dance. I was in love with that boy at that time. But Patrick Dalheimer was my favorite. Maybe it was that bass guitar but he was a cutie. Then my mother shipped me off to MHS but when I left the Milt I went back to York High and Pat was in my English class. Ahhh....the memories. I just about pee'd my pants after I moved to Tenn and I saw their video, it was either Lightning Crashes or I Alone, on Mtv.

Steph,
The band was named Lame and we played some serious NY club dates from the China Club, Bowery Ballroom, Supper Club, Cine, Wetlands among others. (I'm showing my age cuz 1/2 of 'em aren't in business anymore
)
Even more noteworthy were the fact all were unknowns at the time ~ today they are forces to be reckoned with:
Michael Cerveris: 4-time Tony Nom and 1 time winner. Alice Ripley who was nominated for a Tony. Her now husband who has toured with the Oak Ridge Boys. We also had a revolving group of guests come in and play. Best was when Pete Townsend was in town and joined in. Kinda rocked!
The other band I promoted has had a few names over the years but is now a force to be reckoned with esp in the fundraising aspect. When we started they were K2 featuring Donnie Kehr, now they are the Broadway Rockers.

I loved that movie. I also had the sound track, and played it so much, my friends would hide the CD.
11,500 songs, yes i would say you are addicted to music! I'm w/ ya, although, i don't have that many songs.
Also some other bands from the 90's i listen too, Jane's Addiction, RadioHead, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Rollins Band, The Cult, Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star, The Sundays, and the list goes on and on.... :)
Got a fun little story for you on that note. I remember and worked w/ "Grunge" Ethan. I was doing promo for Michael Cerveris' band "Lame" during our Tommy run on Broadway. Show was out at 10 or so and we were playing our first gig at the old China Club at 75/Broadway underneath the Beacon Theater.
The date: Thursday, March 24, 1994. I only know cuz I still have the t-shirt...google it u'll see the insane Woodstock lookin logo we had.
Who was the opening act was an unknown horn-rimmed short long-haired chick who 6 months later exploded upon America with stay: Lisa Loeb. Ethan was playing with her. They stayed and checked out our set and we ended up opening for each other the rest of the summer of '94.
Ethan was great (but terribly smelly) at the time.
Yikes!
Ethan was smelly, i guess he really was Grungy! That's really cool that you got to open up for Lisa Loeb, before she was somebody.
I used to go see the band, Live, (then public affection), at different
places in Lancaster, PA. I hung out at a couple parties after hours parties w/ them. Nice guys. That was forever ago, just like the grunge days. By the way, what was the name of your band?
Meredith
I know...Ethan Hawke, he had this intellectual, bad boy thing going for him.
He was also good in, Training Day, w/ Denzel Washington. Great movie! Hope all is well, your daughter is too cute! Steph
That movie changed my taste in music overnight. I don't know how it happened or why but for some reason it just struck a cord (no pun intended) with me and stuck. I still LOVE Nirvana, Screaming Trees (Best Song: Dollar Bill), Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, and all of the Seattle bands. It also helped me branch out from there over the years. Now, in the digital age, I have a somewhat massive iTunes library (currently @ 56 gigs, 11,500 songs) and am addicted to music of all kinds. But, it was Singles, that got me started.
Ethan Hawke during the grunge days!

I loved Reality Bites!! Now Ethan Hawke "grungey" is OK by me!!
Meredith
I was into the grunge "thing" too, for a little while, but Nirvana was not one of the bands i was into. Screaming Trees, and Soundgarden are a few i liked. My fav band back then was Stone Temple Pilots, still listen to them.
Some good came from Nirvana, David Groll (sp.), The Foo Fighters are awesome! Remember the movies, Reality Bites, and Singles?!
Now as far as I remember there never was a grunge THANG...or a GRUNGE thang! So, I never knew it to get it....but the grunge thing I did get and I actually was grunge before I knew who Nirvana was.
I agree Clint. I didn't really like Nirvana either. They were way too dirty. I never really got the whole GRUNGE thang!
Meredith
"SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT" yeah I think it did. But it was all dirty plaid and greasy hair.

I got nothing!
Oh I've got more. I used to wait tables and I was a bartender. So I have waited on the big dude from Head of the Class, Andre Agassi, and Red West(Roadhouse) who actually had a acting school outside of Memphis in Bartlett, Tn.
Yeah not too famous. But we take what we can get, ya know!
