Thoughts and Prayers for Jeanne Cannon
It's been awhile since I've posted here and it's with very sad news and a heavy heart that I want to share with my former Milt brothers from student home Adams from late 70s, early 80s.
Ed Cannon lost a very long battle with cancer this morning. I don't really know the details. But I had the opportunity about a year ago to visit with both Ed and Jeanne at their home in Palmyra. At the time, they were both dealing with cancer but recovering.
Ed was an amazing father figure to me. He was a small man the size of a grizzly bear. He taught "hustle" and fortitude. He gave me my love for basketball, boxing, football...sports in general. He was stern but fair, composed but cool and was always positive and believed in you. He always made me feel better than I actually was...which turned out to make me better than I actually felt.
I wake up my own sons the way he'd wake us up....with that saying "Up and at 'em!".....been hearing and saying that phrase and acting on it for the last 30+ years.
You will be missed Ed. To me, you were the "father" in "house father" and a damn good one at that. I am truly blessed to have known you.
Heaven's got a new wake up call starting tomorrow morning...."Up and at 'em!"
