Life After The Home as we called it back in the day
I went to MHS from 1964 and graduated in 1972. When I was there I thought what is this going to do for me. Mabey some of you younger alumni did not have to milk the cows or clean up the walk yard. But when I was there along with my predecessors. We had a life that was well quite the different from the norm. as we grew at the Home we learned values and eithics and morales. We were told by MR. Cook at the time told us that one day you are 18 and the next you are 50. did we believe him nawwwwww. But guess what he was right. I am about to turn 57 and the class of 72 will have its 40th renunion in 2012. My brother and I were in the agri buisness program when we were in high school. I must say do I regret learning manners, morales, ethics. No as they helped me get thru my life. I retired after a 23 year carrer as a truck driver for ups freight 23 years of dedicated service. Yes thats right we milked 20 head of holstein before breakfast, cleaned up the walk yard)shoveling cow manure on a very cold day well that was a thrill I want to forget. All I am saying is no matter what you thought as it is called now the milt. The values of taking care of buisness is what you were taught . But it is young men and women from the graduating classes of Milton Hershey School who are the next law makers, engineers, scientists, ceo's. In other words you are the future we have paid our debt to society by following the rules and doing it right. My wife and I maried 28 years with 4 children(2 grandchildren). We should at least be proud we were given a chance to succeed. Yes life is like a poker game not always are you going to get a winning hand but you will make sure you win at life. IF you are down think of what you have to go on for. DO NOT GIVE UP BECAUSE THINGS ARE NOT RIGHT IN YOUR LIFE.Sometimes failure leads to sucess and even today I still believe that. Well best to all the alumni that attended the home. hope I didnt bore you but proud of the graduates of past and present yes very proud because you have the chance to make a difference. Good Luck to you all in any endevor that you take on. George L. Campbell MHS CLASS OF 1972
